Cyclist on mission to combat crime
Shivani Jagan TIMES NEWS NETWORK
Bangalore: Crime Patrol is his Prime Patrol. And 43-yearold Gyanendra Singh from Uttarakhand is now pedalling across the length and breadth of the country talking to youngsters, government officials and NGOs on the need to fight crime.
Currently in Bangalore, cyclist Gyanendra Singh set out from his home town Kashipur in Uttarakhand with the express mission of combating crime.Crime tears apart families. In the villages of our country, crime not only plays a disruptive role but also spreads fear.I want to spread awareness about crime.Tolerance to crime only exacerbates the wounds.I believe its the duty of people to react and respond to crime that happens around them, Gyanendra says.
Gyanendra, who is from a family of farmers, set out on his first cycling journey on May 11,2001.The cause then was to spread the message of harmony and world peace. His second cycling expedition was to back Indias cricket World Cup campaign in 2011.His third was for national unity and world peace.
His fourth journey took him across 8,000 km from Rameswaram to Ramnagar in Nainital district of Uttarakhand with the message of humanity and world peace.
On every journey,Gyanendra focuses on youths. He addresses students of various colleges and schools in an effort to make them aware of his message.Youths,he says, have the power tocreatechange and should understand their duty and responsibilities to society.
The devastating murders over mundane issues in the countryside of Uttarakhand drove him to undertake his fifth journey. He says TV shows on crime are doing a great job in talking about societal crime but it is time they move beyond heinous cases and get people to be proactive in combating crime.
Gyanendra plans to go to Chennai,Hyderabad,Nagpur,Raipur,Kolkata,Ranchi and Delhi on his current journey.
